FBK is seeking a Technologist in the field of chemical-physical characterization in the Hydrogen sector to join its staff.
What to expect
If you’re motivated to work on technologies that support the energy transition, this role offers the chance to operate within a research environment focused on hydrogen and resilient energy systems. You’ll collaborate with research teams and industrial partners, contributing to the chemical-physical characterization of materials and components for hydrogen applications. Your work will support experimental activities and the development of new analytical protocols, combining hands-on laboratory work with applied research in a multidisciplinary and internationally oriented context.Position
The selected candidate will perform chemical-physical characterization of materials and components for the hydrogen sector, including morphological and chemical analyses. Responsibilities include managing the characterization area, maintaining and operating equipment, proposing and implementing new analytical solutions, processing experimental data, and contributing to reports, deliverables, and scientific publications. The role also includes supporting equipment procurement, installation and commissioning, and participating in project proposal preparation.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field;
- Know-how in material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, AFM, XPS, contact angle measurements, gas physisorption/chemisorption);
- Experience in sample preparation and good laboratory practices in a chemical lab;
- Familiarity with heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, water splitting (hydrogen sector) and online gas analysis;
- Proven experience in material chemistry;
- Excellent English (written and spoken);
- Teamwork attitude and strong communication skills;
- Strong orientation to results, determination, flexibility and problem-solving skills;
Preferred requirements
The following elements will be considered an advantage:
- PhD (or equivalent 3 years’ experience) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or related fields;
- Experience in analytical methods development and/or validation;
- Experience in data analysis;
- Experience in drafting project proposals.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted in accordance with the procedures specified in the official call published on the FBK website or at the following link, by Febraury 18th, 2026.
